Home to the world famous golf course

St Andrews links which takes in the famous old course and one of the top universities in the world the oldest university in Scotland.

Founded in 1413 St Andrews University is so good that the royal family sent Prince Harry & William and even Kate attended St Andrews university while Harry was their studying.

St Andrews is found 20 miles from Dundee which is the nearest commercial airport, unless you are the royal family and can utilise Leuchars RAF base.

Dundee airport has a daily flight from London city airport, operated by Loganair, for further airport choice. Inverness Aberdeen or Edinburgh are frequently used airports, Edinburgh does have the most route options though.

Not the only royal couple who met at the Uni, the son of Princess Alexandra of Kent. He met his wife Julia Rawlinson while they studied there. The couple met during their first year at St Andrews and got married in 1988.

The pair have two children together: Flora, born in 1994, and Alexander, born in 1996.

Traveling to St Andrews

In the past I had the pleasure of traveling before on the Caledonian Sleeper train that goes from London to all over Scotland.

I heard the news that they had recently upgraded all the trains by spending crazy 100 million pounds and having en suite rooms with showers. This was for sure the only way we were traveling up north !

And what an experience this was.

Caledonian Sleeper

We had arrived at Euston station in London at 20:30 for our on time 20:57 departure. Costing cost just over 400 pounds per couple. We were delighted as per our request. Yes !!! we had our  double en-suite room. After being checked in by the lovely guard who advised us to head to the dinning cart.
Haggis, Neeps & Tatties and a scotch was on the menu, followed by some more Scottish whiskys,  the perfect night cap before retiring to our en-suite.

We arrived in Scotland on time 5:45 am to a very fresh morning. Ready to take on the day after a beautiful sleep. The taxi was here waiting to take us the the castle that we would be staying at for the next few days.

But first the old course which was on my mind, after all I did win the ballot which I entered last year, on the very slight chance I get to win and to play here after all this was in St Andrews.

Luxurious sleeper train, the Old Course & Castle, Im in heaven.
